Harper Secures $125,000 After Prior Law Firm’s $2,000 Offer

Attorney Stephen Harper met with a potential client who was dissatisfied with their legal representation. Though his injury was debilitating, his first attorney wanted to settle for $2,000. After signing on with Harper, his settlement jumped from $2,000 to $125,000 – a 6,150% increase.

Our client had experienced a work injury while lifting a box onto a conveyor belt. He felt a sharp pain in his back, and let his supervisor know about it before completing his shift. Though the pain began to radiate down into his left hip and leg, he returned to work the next day.

A month later, the pain necessitated a visit to the emergency room. The claimant informed the nurse that he also experienced lower back pain a year prior, undergoing steroid injections and chiropractic therapy – all of which offered minimal relief. Based on this information, his employer/carrier denied the claim, stating that his condition was preexisting and unrelated to the accident. They produced pre-injury medical records to support their defense.

After multiple doctor visits, which included a second opinion, additional trips to the ER, additional diagnoses’ and multiple treatments, our client could not find relief.

An evidentiary hearing was set, and all parties agreed to a mediation. However, a settlement was reached prior to the mediation, in favor of our client, for $125,000.
